Irish Men and Women Advance to NCAA Championship

Evansville, Ind. — Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams were on full display as both teams took first in the Great Lakes Regional held in Evansville, Ind. The women’s team totaled 56 points and the men’s team tallied 37 points with both teams advancing to the NCAA Championship

Four Irish men finished in the top-ten including Matthew Carmody (30:00.5), Yared Nuguse (30:00.6), Andrew Alexander (30:01.3), and Anthony Russo (30:03.5).

The Irish depth was on full display as Danny Kilrea (30:03.9), and Dylan Jacobs (30:04.1) continued the push and finished in the top-fifteen. Jake Renfree posted his time at 30:57.2. Carmody, Nuguse, Alexander, Russo, Kilrea, and Jacobs all secured All-Region honors.

On the women’s side, Maddy Denner dominated with a first place finish (19:55.8) while Olivia Markezich took second at 19:57.7.  Erin Strzelecki notched a top-10 finish with a time of 20:12.1, and Lauren Bailey took thirteenth place (20:14.2). Denner, Markezich, Strzelecki, and Bailey all secured All-Region honors with their finishes.

Madeleine King took a top-30 and Jocelyn Long finished in 37th at 20:37.3 and 20:37.3, respectively. Katie Rose Blachowicz finished with a time of 20:50.8.

The NCAA Championships are set for Saturday, November 20 in Tallahassee, Florida.
