KENOSHA, Wis. – The Irish men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished sixth Saturday at the BIG EAST Conference Championships held at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis.
Senior Lindsey Ferguson earned her third all-BIG EAST honor with a 10th-place finish, clocking in at 21:40. Freshman Jessica Rydberg finished 33rd in 22:24, and senior Beth Tacl was 36th with a time of 22:28. Junior Erica Watson and sophomore Rachel Velarde both crossed the line in 22:40 to finish 40th and 41st, respectively. Freshman Rebecca Tracy finished 45th with a time of 22:50, and junior Marissa Treece finished 47th in 22:53.
The Villanova women won the team crown with 30 total points. West Virginia finished second with 74 points, and Syracuse was third with 84. Georgetown was fourth with 92 points, followed by Providence in fifth with 108. Notre Dame finished sixth with 160 total points.
Villanova’s Sheila Reid won the women’s individual title with a time of 20:46.
Senior Jake Walker was the first Irish men’s runner to cross the line, clocking in at 25:57 to finish 28th. Junior Dan Jackson was 30th with a time of 25:58, junior Ryan Jacobs finished 26th in 26:08 and sophomore Johnathan Shawel finished 39th in 26:17. Sophomore Joe Miller ran the course in 26:42 to finish 45th, followed by junior Paul Springer in 48th at 26:59 and sophomore Jordan Carlson in 49th with a time of 26:59.
Syracuse won the men’s team crown with 55 total points. Georgetown finished second with 61 points, followed by Villanova in third with 76. Louisville finished fourth with 84 points, Providence earned 97 points for fifth place and Notre Dame was sixth with 178 points.
Louisville’s Cory Thorne was the men’s top individual finisher with a time of 24:44.
The Irish will have two weeks off to prepare for the Great Lakes Regional meet on Nov. 14 in Bloomington, Ind.
