TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s cross country team finished 11th, while the women took 13th Saturday at the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
Senior Patrick Smyth paced the Irish men, finishing fourth in 23:38. Freshman Joe Miller was 47th in 24:25, while sophomore Paul Springer finished 101st with a time of 24:55. Junior Jake Walker was 102nd in 25:02 and sophomore Dan Jackson finished 137th in 25:09. Sophomore Ryan Jacobs finished 161st with a time of 25:24 and sophomore Ryan Gamboa was 217th in 25:55.
Alabama took top team honors with 89 points. Northern Arizona was second with 113 and Michigan finished third with 146 points. Notre Dame was 11th with 401 points. Alabama’s Tyson David was the top individual finisher with a time of 23:30.
Junior Lindsey Ferguson led the Irish women, finishing 26th in 21:01. Sophomore Marissa Treece was 40th with a time of 21:13, while freshman Abby Higgins covered the course in 22:00 to finish 108th. Freshman Rachel Velarde was 115th in 22:03 and senior Becca Bauman finished 131st in 22:09. Junior Beth Tacl finished 147th in 22:18 and senior Emily Wauford was 159th in 22:26.
Florida State and Princeton tied for first with 89 points. Michigan was third with 168. Notre Dame finished 13th with 420 points. Florida State’s Susan Kuijken was the top individual finisher with a time of 19:49.
Notre Dame’s men’s and women’s squads will have two weeks off to prepare for the BIG EAST Championships Oct. 31 in New York.
