Irish Pair Receive All-ACC Nods

April 22, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — A pair of University of Notre Dame women’s tennis standouts have been recognized with All-Atlantic Coast Conference selections, with junior Quinn Gleason nabbing second-team honors and sophomore Monica Robinson being named to the third team, the conference announced Wednesday.

Gleason, a native of Mendon, New York, made her first All-ACC team after leading the Fighting Irish atop both the doubles and singles lineup. Robinson, of Valley Center, California, joined Gleason at the No. 1 doubles spot this season, plays No. 2 singles for the Irish and has also garnered her first All-ACC recognition.

“I think both of them have worked really hard this year to get a chance to do that,” head coach Jay Louderback said. “We felt like last year Quinn didn’t make All-ACC when she probably should have, so it was good to see her get in this year as a junior. And with Monica being a sophomore, she’s got two more years after this. I think that’s something that getting it once give them incentive to want to try to make that team again (next year).”

Gleason and Robinson have amassed a 13-5 dual doubles record, including an 8-3 mark against ACC opponents. In the fall, the pair won an at-large bid to the USTA/ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, and have posted a 4-2 record against ranked opponents this spring. The pair have been ranked among the ITA top 30 throughout the spring season. Gleason has posted an 11-10 dual record in singles, while Robinson is 11-11 in dual play.

North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb was selected as the ACC Player of the Year, while Miami’s Sinead Lohan took Freshman of the Year honors. Tar Heels coach Brian Kalbas was named ACC Coach of the Year.

The seventh-seeded Irish (14-9, 8-6 ACC) return to action in the ACC Championships and will face the winner between No. 10 Florida State and No. 15 Pittsburgh at noon EDT Thursday at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.
