SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Riding a six-game winning streak, the University of Notre Dame softball team (25-27, 11-13 ACC) begins its postseason quest this week at the ACC Softball Championships in Charlottesville, Virginia, at Palmer Park, home of the Virginia Cavaliers. The eighth-seeded Irish are set to clash against ninth-seeded Georgia Tech at 11:00 a.m. ET on ACC Network Wednesday morning, the opening game of the conference tournament.
Notre Dame is 8-11 historically in the ACC Softball Championships, dating back to 2014. The Irish have faced Georgia Tech just once in the postseason conference tournament, falling in 2023.
Earlier this year, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech faced off in Atlanta to open up conference play in late February. Even though the Yellow Jackets took all three in the series, the Irish held leads numerous times in the final two games.
The Irish have made strides offensively this season. Notre Dame’s batting .308 this season, up from .265 a year ago. The .308 average as of now would be the 11th-best in program history. Discipline and patience has also been a key focus for the Irish offense, as the 174 walks this season are the most in program history, besting the 172 in 2019.
Notre Dame’s offense is up over a full run compared to last year, averaging 4.94 runs a game after just 3.71 in 2025. Mickey Winchell leads the team with 38 runs scored while Ava Zachary has 33.
12 different Irish have hit home runs, led by Lily Hagan’s nine on the season. Between Hagan, Zachary and Hayden Kyne, Notre Dame freshmen have accounted for 18 of the 34 Notre Dame homers this season.
In the circle, the trio of Kami Kamzik, Micalea Kastor and Brianne Weiss have led the charge for the Irish. Weiss leads the team with 124 strikeouts, 54 more than last season, and is among the top strikeout pitchers in the conference. Kastor has 107 on the season, making it back-to-back 100 strikeout seasons for the senior. Kamzik has been a key reliever for Notre Dame, leading the team with a 4.10 ERA and three saves. All three have thrown at least three complete games this year.
The winner of Notre Dame-Georgia Tech gets a meeting with top-seeded Florida State in the quarterfinals, who is ranked in the top-ten nationally Thursday at 11:00 a.m. ET on ACC Network.
