CHICAGO – Notre Dame men’s golf will be seeking its second straight tournament championship on Tuesday after positioning itself in first place at the Windon Memorial. After two rounds on Monday, the Fighting Irish are four strokes ahead of Ole Miss in first place.
In addition, after a runner-up finish in the season-opening tournament in Wisconsin, Hunter Ostrom is once again in contention for an individual championship, sitting in second place at five-under par.
ROUND ONE
After the opening round, the Irish sat in second place with a three-under par. Sophomore Andrew O’Leary led after the initial 18 holes with a round of 68 (-3). O’Leary showed perseverance, starting the front nine with a birdie-bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie combo.
Palmer Jackson and Ostrom also finished under-par at two-under and one-under, respectively. After an even-par front nine, Jackson posted a clean slate on the back-nine which included two birdies. Meanwhile, Ostrom recorded five birdies to balance his under-par round.
Rounding out the team score for round one was Davis Chatfield, who notched a 74 (+3).
ROUND TWO
The Irish surged in round two, firing off a 277 (-7) to launch themselves into first place. Ostrom charged up the leaderboard with a second round 67 (-4). The senior was red hot on the front nine, carding a four-under par.
In addition, Chatfield improved over the second half of the day with a 71 (-2), which included a back-nine of nine consecutive pars. Lamb fired off a one-under par, while Jackson shot an even-par 71.
