Irish Set To Compete At U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Coming off an impressive season where the Irish finished 22^nd in the country, the Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team qualified eight and is sending seven to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming and Diving Trials that will be held in Omaha, Neb., from June 25-July 2.

Heading to the trials are All-Americans Kelly Ryan and Emma Reaney, all-BIG EAST performers Kim Holden and Amy Prestinario and veterans Bridget Casey, Christen McDonough and Lauren Stauder. Rising sophomore Hannah Bowen qualified in the 50 free, but will miss the trials with with an injury.

Ryan will compete in the 100 free and 100 and 200 back, while Reaney qualified in four events – the 200 and 400 IM and the 100 and 200 breast. Holden is slated for three events – 100 fly and 100 and 200 back, while Prestinario (’12) will swim in the 100 fly and free. Casey qualified in the 200 fly, McDonough in the 100 breast and Stauder in the 100 and 200 breast.

Highlighting the seeds is Casey, who is 40^th in the 200 fly, and Reaney, who is 42^nd in the 200 IM.
