The Notre Dame baseball team (36-12, 14-4 BIG EAST) – ranked as high as 20th in the national polls – returns from final exams this weekend with yet another BIG EAST showdown vs. rival Rutgers (28-15, 15-4) on May 10-11 … RU holds a slight lead atop the BIG EAST standings (which are determined by winning pct.) in the race for the four-team BIG EAST Tournament, followed by ND and West Virginia (14-4), Virginia Tech (13-7), Boston College (10-8) and Pittsburgh (10-10) … this weekend’s action also includes a VT-Pitt showdown, with WVU playing at 10th-place Villanova and BC at 7th-place St. John’s …the final week will see ND at VT, RU at Villanova, WVU at BC and Pitt at 9th-place UConn … the Irish could clinch a BIG EAST postseason spot through a number of combinations in Saturday’s games.
