Notre Dame¹s men tennis team recorded another day of solid results Saturday at the Tom Fallon Invitational, capturing ten of 12 singles matches. The Irish also captured four of ten doubles contests.
Ten different players registered singles wins for the Irish Saturday, including five freshmen.
Dan Stahl earned his fourth win of the year in a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Michigan State¹s John Allare. Fellow freshman Tyler Davis won a three set match for the second day in a row, defeating the Spartans¹ John Stratton 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8). Another Irish rookie, Matt Johnson, was also victorious, cruising past Ty Sauerbrey of Michigan State 6-0, 6-4.
Stephen Havens and David Anderson were also impressive in their first weekend at the Courtney Tennis Center, each recording straight set victories over Ball State Cardinals. Havens defeated Eduardo Pavia 6-1, 6-4 while Anderson earned the 6-1, 6-0 decision over Shaun Bussert.
Junior Brett Helgeson ran his unbeaten streak to seven matches with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win over Alex Forger of Michigan State. The junior¹s 7-0 record is the best singles mark on the team.
Sean Corrigan, Graham King, Sean Tan, and Santiago Montoya each posted straight-set victories. Corrigan earned a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Michigan¹s David Streeter, while Santiago Montoya defeated the Wolverines¹ Matt Parks 6-4, 6-0.
Tan was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Alex Allon of Michigan State and King defeated the Spartans¹ Billy Gardner 6-2, 6-1. These victories helped Notre Dame take six of seven singles matches from Michigan State.
The Tom Fallon Invitational will conclude tomorrow with singles play beginning at 9:00 AM followed by doubles beginning at 12:30 PM.
