SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s basketball dropped a season-high in points in its 91-62 victory over Le Moyne on Sunday evening. The Fighting Irish (7-5) won their third straight and improved to 6-1 inside Purcell Pavilion, officially wrapping up non-conference play.
Individually, it was a heck of a night for Irish forward Tae Davis. The junior recorded his second straight 20+ point performance and fourth of his career (all this season); plus, he secured his career-high tying seventh straight game in double figures. Davis earned 24 points on 6-of-10 shooting and 12-for-14 from the free-throw line. The 12 made free throws tied his career high.
It was a career-high night for Logan Imes who recorded his first double-digit scoring performance with 11 points. Imes went 3-for-5 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the line.
Braeden Shrewsberry pushed his career-high double-digit scoring streak to eight games with 14 tonight. The sophomore guard went 4-for-8, plus 5-for-5 from the charity line.
All in all, 10 Irish players scored, including the first collegiate bucket from Cole Certa. The freshman finished with five points. Fellow freshman Garrett Sundra grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
In terms of starters, graduate guard Matt Allocco dished out a team-high six assists with his eight points. Forward Kebba Njie collected nine points and six boards, while guard Julian Roper II earned a season-high eight points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tae Davis and Julian Roper II combined for the first 11 points and got the Irish off to an 11-8 lead. Notre Dame claimed the momentum at the 10:59 mark – that’s when they fired off a 16-2 run, getting contributions from Kebba Njie, Matt Allocco, Roper, Davis and Braeden Shrewsberry.
Shrewsberry scored seven points during said run and ultimately finished with a co-team high 12 at the half. Davis was the other co-leader with 12 points.
The Irish recorded a stretch in the first half in which they made 10-of-12 from the field, building a 41-23 lead. Notre Dame ultimately shot 60.0 percent (18-30) in the first half, marking the second straight game in which they have done so.
The hot touch led to a 49-30 halftime advantage, marking a first half season high in points.
The Fighting Irish kept the foot on the pedal to start the second half, recording a 10-3 scoring spree, led by six points from Davis. The Indy native had 10 points in the second half alone by 14:53.
Later a J.R. Konieczny three followed by a pair of free throws from Logan Imes led to Notre Dame’s first 30-point lead of the season, up 68-38 with 13 minutes remaining.
From there, Coach Shrewsberry dispersed his bench and the Irish reserves brought home the 91-62 final. Their 91 points were the most since they poured in 99 versus Boston College on Feb. 16, 2022. Notre Dame recorded a season-high in made free throws, converting 23-of-28 at the stripe.
