WATERVILLE, Ireland – The Notre Dame men’s golf team remained in fifth place on Friday following the second round of the Jerry Murray/Waterville Invitational at the Waterville Golf Links in Waterville, Ireland. The Irish shot a 326 in the second round for a two-day total of 630 (+54).
The six-team tournament, which is being hosted by Notre Dame and the Waterville Golf Links, includes three Irish Universities and three NCAA institutions.
Maynooth University maintained its first-place lead in the three-day event with a two-day total of 613 (+37), shooting a 324 Friday and posting a 289 on Thursday.
Texas A&M, which moved into second place after also recording a 324 on Friday, stands nine strokes off the pace with a 622 total (+46). The Aggies ended yesterday with a 10-over par 298.
UNC Wilmington dropped to third with a two-day total of 623 (+47). Just one stroke behind Texas A&M entering Saturday’s final day of competition. The Seawolves shot a 296 yesterday and a 327 today.
Ulster University remained in fourth place with a 36-hole total of 625 (+49). Ulster finished with a 325 score on Friday and a 300 on Thursday.
University College Dublin is sixth with a 647 total (+71) following today’s 338 score and 308 yesterday.
Freshman Miguel Delgado leads the Irish after two rounds. Delgado has a two-day total of 154 (+10) after today’s 79 and yesterday’s 75. Junior Matt Rushton is three strokes off Delgado’s pace with a 36-hold total 154 (+10), shooting rounds of 77 and 80.
Sophomore Blake Barens has a two-day 159 total (+15) after posting an 82 on Friday and a 77 on Thursday. Freshman Ben Albin is one stroke behind Barens at 160 (+16) with scores of 75 and 85.
Freshman Kevin Connors has a two-day total of 172 (+28) after shooting an 86 on both days.
