NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Fighting Irish had a strong opening weekend to the cross country season, as the men’s and women’s programs defeated Louisville at the Irish Classic. Freshmen Erin Strzelecki and Josh Methner were recognized for their strong performances, earning ACC Freshmen Performer of the Week accolades.
Strzelecki got her collegiate career off to a fantastic start at the season-opening Irish Classic. The freshman placed fifth overall with a time of 17:13.2 in the 5K, helping Notre Dame record the team win over Louisville.
Methner impressed in his Notre Dame debut, finishing the five-mile course at the Irish Classic in 24:12.9 to finish sixth overall and help the Irish place first in the dual meet versus Louisville. Methner was one of six Notre Dame runners to finish under 24:15.0 in the race.
Notre Dame’s next meet is the Louisville Classic at noon ET on Saturday, Oct. 3.
