The University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish got a 42-point showing from the bench on the way to a 92-57 victory against the Robert Morris Colonials at home Saturday. Notre Dame improved to 1-1 overall after the victory.

After jumping out to a 32-20 advantage, Notre Dame went on a 7-0 run with 1:59 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from John Mooney, to increase its lead to 39-20, a score that would hold until halftime. Notre Dame did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 39 points close to the basket. Following intermission, Notre Dame kept widening that lead, expanding it to 82-48 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Nate Laszewski’s three, to grow the lead to 90-48 with 1:43 to go in the contest. The Colonials narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Fighting Irish still cruised the rest of the way for the 92-57 win. Notre Dame got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 27 of its 53 total points.

The Fighting Irish had five players score in double figures, led by Dane Goodwin, who had 18 points. T.J. Gibbs tacked on 15 points and five assists and Robby Carmody helped out with 13 points from the bench.
