SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Sophomore David Graves scored 24 points and Troy Murphy added 22 to lead Notre Dame to a 97-71 win over Elon Tuesday night.
The Fightin’ Christians (4-6) stayed close most of the first half but in the end the superior height and outside shooting of Notre Dame (7-5) was too much. Brendon Rowell scored 17 points and Clint Walker added 15 to lead Elon.
The Christians kept the game close in the first 10 minutes despite not scoring for the first four minutes. A David Hall layup with 10:42 remaining knotted the score at 13-13 as the Irish struggled with their shooting touch.
Hall nailed a 3-pointer to knot the score again at 18-18. Both squads then struggled before a 17-10 burst by the Irish gave them a 37-30 halftime edge.
The Irish scored 11 straight points to open the second half and Elon never recovered. Irish coach Matt Doherty removed his starters with 13 minutes remaining in the game.
