Irish Take Home Seven First Place Finishes

BLOOMINGTON, IN. – The Notre Dame track and field team competed this weekend at the Indiana Invite in Bloomington. The Irish collected six first place finishes.

Kendall Burgess took tenth place in the long jump with a mark of 5.63m. Olivia Fabry continued to represent the Irish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.57m. In the high jump, Madison Schmidt took first place with a final mark of 1.80m. Sarah Flight was also in the high jump with a mark of 1.69m.

In the throwing events, Alesis Juntunen took 12th place with a throw of 13.91m. Teammate Ava Butterbaugh also was in the shot put with a mark of 12.6m.  In the hammer throw, Rachel Tanczos threw for 61.76m taking second place, and Emma Albano took 15th with a throw of 49.92m.

In the women’s discus throw, Rachel Tanczos took third with a throw of 55.68m. Ava Butterbaugh also threw in the discus event and hit a mark of 41.64m, along with teammate Emma Albano who hit 36.55m. In the women’s javelin throw, Gabrielle Diederich took first place with a throw of 49.92m, and teammate Siobhan Loughney took 13th with a throw of 35.14m.

In the 100 meter dash Shae Douglas took 11th place with a time of 12.14. Douglas also ran in the 200 meter dash clocking in at 25.24. Eve Balseiro crossed the finish line at 55.06 taking fifth place in the 400 meter dash. Alaina Brady took 11th with a time of 56.15.

Kaitlin Ryan took second place in the 800 meter run. She crossed the finish line at 2:05.99. Erin Sullivan clocked in at 2:09.54, and Megan Hughes at 2:11.59. Molly Grant clocked in at 4:37.15 for the 1500 meter run. Meghan Scott was right behind her at 4:39.87. The Irish took first and second place in the 10000 meter run when Maddy Denner crossed the finish in 33:27.06 and Lauren Bailey finished in 34:41.64. Charlotte Turesson finished with a time of 36:11.83.

The 3000 meter steeplechase had Olivia Markezich take first place with a time of 10:00.09, and Madeline King took third place with a time of 10:21.16. Sophie Novak rounded out the Irish with a time of 10:34.22 in fourth place. Jacqueline Gaughan took fifth place at the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:40.04, and Katie Blachowicz clocked in at 16:54.81.

In the men’s shot put, Michael Shoaf took first place with a throw of 18.90m. In the discus throw, Shoaf took ninth with a throw of 50.72m. Henry Boudreau also hit a mark of 47.33m in the discus. John Stefan took third place in the shot put with a toss of 17.98m, and William Loewen took ninth with a 16.67m throw. 

In the men’s pole vault, Nolan Blachowski hit a mark of 4.67m. Blake Kusky took fourteenth in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.57m. Austin Parsons took first place in the javelin throw with a mark of 67.64m, and John Keenan took second with a throw of 65.32m.

The 110 meter hurdles had Theo Phipps take third place with a time of 14.50. Theo Chambers represented the Irish in the 200 meter dash crossing the finish line at 21.21 and teammate Paul Baynes not far behind as he came in at 22.03. In the 400 meter dash, Theo Chambers took second place with a time of 46.92, John Oleksak ran for a time of 49.04, and Luis Cossio clocked in at 49.14.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Max Frye took second place with a time of 51.53. The men’s 800 meter run had Sam Voelz take second place with a time of 1:48.09. Bashir Mosavel-Lo took fourth with a time of 1:48.47, Vincent Zona clocked in at 1:52.88, Jackson Storey at 1:57.98, and Parker Jones at 1:58.01. Parker Jones crossed the finish line at 3:46.68 in the 1500 meter run, along with teammate Vincent Zona who ran for a time of 3:53.29, and Amani Morrell who ran for a time of 3:58.04.

The men’s 3000 meter steeplechase had a first place finish in Tom Seitzer with a time of 8:49.89. The Irish also took second place when Zach Kreft crossed the finish line at 9:01.01. Nicholas Mota clocked in at 14:32.29 in the men’s 5000 meter run, along with teammate Henry Chapman who finished in 14:39.27.
