EAST LANSING, Mich. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team recorded an impressive outing Friday at the 2012 United States Tennis Association/ Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Region Championships at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility and Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Fighting Irish pair of Spencer Talmadge and Greg Andrews blitzed Valparaiso’s Lucas Waak and Eric Honert 8-2 in the main doubles draw. Talmadge previously went 1-1 Thursday in singles competition, outlasting Detroit’s Alex Latosinsky (6-4, 6-4), only to drop a heart-breaker three-set match to DePaul’s Adam Reinhart (6-7 (1), 6-3, 7-6(5)) in the next round.
Freshman Kenneth Sabacinski teamed up with fellow frosh teammate Nicolas Montoya to drop host Michigan State team Christian Roehmer and Tyler Richmond 8-1.
Due to tournament seeding, senior Michael Moore and sophomore Wyatt McCoy advanced by default, while Irish teammates Ryan Bandy and Quentin Monaghan battled their way past Jim Beckwith and Stephen Payne of Western Michigan 8-3.
