NOTRE DAME, Ind – Fall break from school does not mean a break from competition as the Notre Dame men’s tennis team will head to East Lansing to compete in the ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by Michigan State University.
Junior Matt Halpin and Freshman Jamie Corsillo will begin their campaign in the qualifying draw which begins Thursday morning. Both players received a bye in the opening round and will await winners for their 2nd round match. Halpin will play the winner of Tin Krstulovic(Marquette) and Max Sandoval(Chicago State). Corsillo will play the winner of Juan Abboud(Cleveland State) and Luke Baylis(Michigan State). Players will have to win three rounds of qualifying to secure their spot in the main draw of singles play.
Seven other Notre Dame players are already accepted into main draw play which will begin Saturday morning. Senior Axel Nefve, graduate student Peter Conklin, juniors Matt Che, Connor Fu and Braeden Ho, and freshmen Yu Zhang and Brian Bilsey will all await opponents to be released Friday evening.
Doubles play will begin on Friday morning with the teams of Nefve/Conklin, Fu/Ho, Che/Zhang and Bilsey/Halpin all paired together.
Participating schools in addition to Notre Dame and Michigan State will include Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Illinois, Illinois State, Marquette, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Toledo, Wisconsin, Western Michigan and Youngstown State.
