NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team will face Ohio State in the 2013 Chevrolet Gotham City Classic on December 21, 2013. The second annual game will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. The Gazelle Group, a sports marketing firm in Princeton, N.J., once again will produce the event.

Prior to that contest, Notre Dame and Ohio had not played since Nov. 16, 2009 in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament with the Irish handing the Buckeyes a 59-57 setback in Columbus, Ohio.

Throughout the 12 games of the series neither team has won by more than 12 points dating back to their first matchup on Feb. 17, 1912 as the Irish earned a 24-23 victory.

In the span of the series both squads have averaged for a 5.16-point winning margin, displaying tight knit battles in nearly every game. The pair holds an even 3-3 series at Columbus, Ohio and a 2-3 series in Notre Dame, Ind.

The Temple Owls were the inaugural winners of the Gotham Classic in December 2012 as the Owls upset Syracuse 83-79, ranked third at the time of the game.

The finalized field and schedule for the Gotham City Classic will be announced at a later date.
