Irish To Host Sixth Daughters For Dads Game On March 29

Fundraising efforts extended to entire month of March

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — This year, the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team is extending their Daughters For Dads initiative to the entire month of March. Notre Dame’s fundraising efforts will culminate with the sixth annual Daughters for Dads Game on Sunday, March 29th against Syracuse at Arlotta Stadium at 2 p.m. ET.

For every fan in attendance at each game in the month of March, St. Joseph Health System will donate $10 to the Harper Cancer Research Institute. To donate to the cause online, click here.

“This year is truly special as we begin the first year of dedicating an entire month to our D4D efforts in raising funds for research to find a cure for cancer,” said Irish head coach Christine Halfpenny. “We are excited to welcome two of my former players, Jordy Shoemaker (Notre Dame ‘12) and Sarah Mulvey (William & Mary ‘12), to campus on March 29th when we host Syracuse in our sixth annual Daughters For Dads contest.”

On March 29th, the Irish encourage fans to donate $5 to participate in the lacrosse toss at halftime, with the lucky winner receiving a $150 shopping spree to the Leep Varsity Shop or Hammes Bookstore. People will need to donate online in advance to participate in the lacrosse toss and show their receipt on gameday. There will also be a live auction at halftime on March 29th that includes an all-access gameday with the women’s lacrosse team and a spring sports package for April 4th.

In addition to the efforts on March 29, other Daughters For Dads and single-game initiatives this month include:

  • Women’s lacrosse appearance at the Irish hockey game on Friday, February 28 vs. Michigan State.
  • Daughters For Dads hat giveaway on Sunday, March 1st vs. Duke.
  • Honorees from Harper Cancer Research at halftime for each game in March.
  • Free cancer awareness ribbons in a variety of colors at the promotions table.
  • Special Daughters for Dads t-shirts for Irish goals in the month of March.

“Please join me and the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team in our efforts to fight cancer,” said Halfpenny. “Six years ago, our program suffered a pair of heartbreaking losses to our women’s lacrosse family, and both were fathers to two of our alumni. That same year, two of my former players from William & Mary lost their fathers to cancer. Our fight is fueled by the memories we share of Bryan Shoemaker, Don Tremblay, David Anderson and Phil Mulvey.  No one has said it better than Jordy Shoemaker: `Dollars lead to research, research leads to more time, and more time is priceless.’ We look forward to seeing you all month long to help us in our fight against cancer.”
