NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s tennis team will compete in its last event of the fall this weekend as they play at the Bonita Bay Classic. The tournament is hosted by Florida Gulf Coast and will be played at the Bonita Bay Club in Bonita Springs, Florida.
The tourney will consist of singles and doubles play against opposition from Florida Gulf Coast, Memphis, Dartmouth and Miami, with play continuing through Sunday afternoon. With imminent weather forecasted, the plan is for each player to compete in three singles and three doubles matches throughout the weekend, but the schedule could be altered.
Now, while eight members of the team are in Florida, Axel Nefve is making a run at the M15 Ithaca Futures this week. He was a direct acceptance into the main draw where he has already won two rounds and is into the Quarterfinals where he will face top-seeded Felix Corwin today at 10am.
The last time the Irish stepped on the court was two weeks ago at the ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by Michigan State. Matt Che and Yu Zhang had a good showing as they won three rounds of doubles to make it to the quarterfinals. Six other ND men won rounds in singles with Nefve making it to the Round of 16.
