NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to compete at the BIG EAST Indoor Conference meet on Saturday and Sunday at the Stile Athletics Field House in Akron, Ohio. Action is set to begin on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (ET) and on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. (ET).
The Irish are sending a number of talented student-athletes to the league competition, led on the women’s side by sophomore Rebecca Tracy (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) who is set to compete in the mile, the distance medley relay and the 4×800-meter relay. The trials for the mile as well as the distance medley relay will be Saturday, while the mile finals and the 4×800-meter relay is Sunday.
Greg Davis (Peachtree, Ga./Starr’s Mill) and Denes Veres (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) are set to compete in the throws department at the conference meet. Both will participate in the weight throw, while Veres also will throw the shot put. Davis enters the meet with three all-BIG EAST honors, while Veres has been an all-BIG EAST honoree five times. The weight throw is scheduled for Saturday at 1:15 p.m., while the shot put commences at 11:25 a.m. on Sunday.
Sophomore Jeremy Rae (Fort Erie, Ontario/Lakeshore Catholic), who was named BIG EAST Male Track Athlete of the Week back-to-back weeks, (Feb. 1 and Feb. 8) will take to the track in the mile. The mile trial begins at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. The sophomore enters the mile after running a 3:59.62 at the Meyo Invitational (Feb. 5).
Freshman Patrick Feeney (Indianapolis, Ind./New Palestine) makes his BIG EAST conference meet debut in the 400-meter dash trials on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and if Feeney advances, the 400-meter dash finals are schedule for 1:10 on Sunday. Additionally, Feeney runs the 4×400-meter relay at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Justin Schneider (Atlanta, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian) and Kevin Schipper (Leo, Ind./Bishop Dwenger), both two-time all-BIG EAST recipients will take to the track this weekend. Schneider, who was named the BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 19, begins the heptathlon on Saturday, beginning with the 60-meter dash at 11:00 a.m. and concludes with the 1,000-meter run at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday. Schipper returns to the pole vault, hoping to improve his number of BIG EAST titles from four to five.
