Irish Unable To Solve #20/19 Hokies' Defense In 62-51 Loss

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Irish hosted No. 20/19 Virginia Tech on Wednesday evening inside Purcell Pavilion and were unable to solve the Hokies’ stifling defense in a 62-51 defeat.

Prentiss Hubb led the way for the Irish on the offensive end, scoring a game-high 22 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Irish offense got off to a slow start on Wednesday, as Notre Dame trailed the Hokies 25-10 with five minutes remaining in the first half. The Irish managed to close the half on a high note, trimming the deficit to single digits at 31-22. Hubb carried the load, accounting for 17 points in the first 20 minutes.

Virginia Tech managed to keep the Irish at arms length for the entirety of the second half, never allowing Notre Dame to make a run and get back into the game. The visitors’ lead fluctuated between 10 and 15 points for the remaining 20 minutes of play before the Hokies finished with the 62-51 win.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Hubb poured in 22 points on the evening, including three makes from beyond the arc to carry the Irish offense. The junior added four rebounds, three assists and one block to round out his evening.

Notre Dame blocked a season high seven shots with Juwan Durham, Nate Laszewski and Nik Djogo with two apiece.
