SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame Director of Golf and Head Men’s Golf Coach John Handrigan announced that Andrew Serketich has been named as an assistant coach and director of operations for the Fighting Irish men’s and women’s golf programs ahead of the 2023 season.
Serketich joins the Irish from Queens University of Charlotte, where he has been at the helm of the Royal’s men’s golf program since the 2017-18 season after serving as the associate head men’s golf coach from 2010-2014. Prior to becoming the associate head men’s golf coach, Serketich served as the assistant coach to both the men’s and women’s programs from 2008-2010.
“Andrew has a proven track record of success as a head coach at the Division I level and we are fortunate to add him to our staff,” said Handrigan. “He’s a coach with high character and strong values who will be a role model for both our teams. Andrew’s knowledge and determination will help us further the success of Notre Dame Golf.”
While Serketich led the men’s golf program most recently at Queens University of Charlotte, he will continue to use his coaching experience to help with both the men’s and women’s golf programs at Notre Dame.
“I am really excited for Andrew to join our ND Golf staff,” said head women’s golf coach Caroline Powers Ellis. “It was evident through the interview process his passion for the sport, his work ethic, and his enthusiasm for developing student-athletes. He will have a hand in helping us grow every area of our program and will be a great resource for our players on a daily basis.”
In the Royals’ first season at the Division I level, Serketich led the Royals to nine top-10 finishes in the 2023 season. In their final season at the DII level, Serketich led the Royals to the NCAA Championship after a first place finish at the SAC Championships. During the 2018-19 season, Serketich was able to lead the Royals back to the NCAA Championships. It was their third appearance in program history and came after the Royals were able to capture their first SAC Championship title.
In his previous stint at Queens, Serketich was an integral part of the Royals’ success playing a major role in program marketing and recruiting. He also had a hand in the day-to-day operations of the program, and played a key role in creating, planning, and completing five tournaments hosted by the Royals in Florida at TPC Sawgrass.
Highlighting his previous time with the Royals was the program’s first NCAA Championship appearance as a team in 2010. Queens then followed that appearance with a pair of Conference Carolinas Championships, winning in 2011 and 2013.
The 2007 Queens graduate was also a member of the men’s golf team earning team captain honors during both his junior and senior seasons. After receiving a bachelor’s degree and Professional Golf Management Certification in 2007, Serketich went on to earn his MBA from the McColl School of Business in 2012.
“I am grateful to Mr. Fraleigh, Coach Handrigan and Coach Powers Ellis for this amazing opportunity to join the University of Notre Dame Golf staff and represent this prestigious university,” said Serketich. “Coach Zedrick and Coach Bellville are incredible coaches as well and I look forward to working with everyone to achieve the vision of having two elite golf programs. The Notre Dame standard in the classroom and athletically is incredibly strong and I look forward to helping our student athletes reach their potential on and off the golf course. I look forward to joining the South Bend community and cannot wait to get started.”
