NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team will host its first home dual meet of the 2012-13 season Friday at 5 p.m. (ET) against No. 18 Purdue University at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.

“The Purdue team is always well-coached,” Fighting Irish head coach Tim Welsh says. “They race very well side by side, they like doing that, and I think (Purdue coach) Dan Ross does a very solid job with preparation.”

Notre Dame opened the dual meet schedule with a 191-107 win at Oakland University Oct. 26. 2012 All-American Frank Dyer was a double individual winner in the 50 and 200 free, and was the anchor of the victorious 200 medley relay team. Zachary Stephens claimed wins in the 100 and 200 breast, and was second in the water with the first place 400 free relay squad.

The Fighting Irish continued their weekend momentum with a 178-120 decision at Michigan State University Oct. 27. Dyer won the 100 free and repeated in the 200 free for the second consecutive day, while Cameron Miller claimed a pair of wins in the 100 and 200 breast. Miller also competed with the 200 medley relay team that earned a first-place finish. Nick Nemetz brought home victories in both the 1 and 3-meter dives, setting a personal-best score of 358.65 off the 3-meter board.

Purdue enters Friday’s meet with a 1-0 dual record as a full squad after downing Miami (Ohio) 192-103 Oct. 27. The Boilermakers won all 16 events, led by Danny Tucker’s three total first-place runs (50 free, 100 free, member of 200 medley relay).

“We’re looking to measure ourselves at home, with it being our first big home dual meet of the season,” Welsh says. “We want to see how fast we are and where we need to improve. Friday will give us a very good look at our squad.”
