Irish Welcome Western Michigan to the Eck

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame baseball team is looking for its sixth win over a seven-game span as it faces Western Michigan at 6:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The Irish and the Broncos will play in Notre Dame’s final home midweek contest.

The Irish will hand the ball to freshman left-hander Tommy Sheehan, who will get the start against Western Michigan right-hander Jack Szott.

Notre Dame and Western Michigan have squared off on the baseball diamond more than any other Irish opponent. Notre Dame has a slight edge in the all-time series, owning a 70-66-1 mark and a 48-33 record at home.

The Irish have been victorious in their last two meetings with the Broncos. Most recently, Notre Dame defeated Western Michigan, 10-2, on May 16, 2017 at Frank Eck Stadium.

Game Notes

  • Jake Johnson owns a 17-game on-base streak during which he is batting .350 (21-60) with 14 walks, 10 runs scored and seven RBI.
  • Eric Gilgenbach collected seven multi-hit games in the month of April. During that span, the outfielder batted .317 (20-for-63).
  • Alex Kerschner has hit safely in five of his last seven games, going 8-22 (.364) over that span.
