VERO BEACH, Fla. – The No. 42 Notre Dame men’s golf team competed in the opening two rounds of the Quail Valley Intercollegiate on Monday at the Quail Valley Golf Club (Par 72, Yardage 7,350). The Irish sit within striking distance of first place South Florida (552, -24), totaling 558 strokes as a team for the day, at 18-under par.
Round One
Notre Dame secured its best round to date this fall when they opened the tournament with an 11-under par (277) round.
Kevin Conners led the way with a career low round of 66 (-6). The junior recorded four birdies on the last six holes of the front-nine before tallying three more on the back to head into the clubhouse in sole first place after round one. The six-under par round tied Ben Albin’s third round of the Badger Invitational for lowest to-par round this fall.
Miguel Delgado kept his momentum rolling from the AutoTrader Classic with a first round 68 (-4). Hunter Ostrom (70, -2) and Ben Albin (73, +1) also counted scores for the Irish.
Round Two
Notre Dame then notched a 281 (-7) in the afternoon to move to 18-under par overall. The Irish were overtaken by USF who recorded the lowest round of the day with a 273 (-15) to move to 24-under par overall.
Conners continued to roll in round two, shooting a 68 to move to 10-under par overall and a tie for first place along with Memphis’ Brad Bawden. More impressively is the fact that Conners only carded two bogies on the entire day.
Following right behind once more, Delgado shot a 69 (-3) to move to seven-under par, good for a tie for sixth place. In addition, Albin (72, E) and Davis Chatfield (72, E) rounded out the team scores with even-par rounds.
