Irish Women's Tennis Advances to ITA National Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 17 Notre Dame women’s tennis team knocked off the 14th-ranked Arkansas Lady Razorbacks, 4-1, Sunday to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

The Irish clinched the doubles points to move ahead, 1-0. The No. 1-ranked duo of Kelcy Tefft and Kristy Frilling defeated the eighth-ranked Nanar Airapetian and Anouk Tigu, 8-1. Shannon Mathews and Colleen Reilley defeated Emily Carbone and Kate Lukomskaya, 8-5, to clinch the doubles point. Cosmina Ciobanu and Kali Krisik were leading Aurelija Miseviciute and Ela Kaluder, 6-3, when the match was called.

The Razorbacks evened the match at 1-1, as No. 2 Miseviciute defeated No. 46 Tefft, 6-1, 6-0, in the first singles match. No. 62 Kristin Rafael moved the Irish ahead when she defeated Carbone, 6-3, 6-2. Ciobanu downed Airapetian, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Mathews battled back to defeated Lukomskaya, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, and clinch the match for the Irish. Tigu was leading Frilling, 6-7, 6-1, 2-1 and Kali Krisik was leading Kaluder, 6-3, 2-6, 5-5 before both matches were called.

The Irish advanced to the ITA National Indoor Team Championships Feb. 13-16 at Madison, Wisc.

Notre Dame will host Michigan at home Feb. 6 before heading to Madison.
