NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame has named Ken Fry as head golf professional. Fry’s duties include managing daily operations and staffing, overseeing execution of tournaments, establishing lesson and clinic programs, developing a caddy program and assisting in the development and implementation of customer service programs.
The 30-year-old Fry-who assumed his duties in late May-is a native of Pittsfield, Mass., and graduated from Syracuse University in 1991 with a bachelors of science in operations management. A hockey player converted to golfer, Fry has been a member of the PGA since Feb. of 1998.
After graduating from Syracuse, Fry moved to Atlanta and began working as a caddy at the newly-opened Golf Club of Georgia, the 1991 recipient of Golf Digest’s “Best New Private Course.”
Fry moved to South Bend in July of 1994 and assisted in the opening of the highly-acclaimed Blackthorn Golf Club. He then moved across town to Morris Park Country Club as their first assistant pro for the next three years. He assisted in all aspects of the golf program at Morris Park and oversaw the junior program. Under the tutelage of past Indiana Section President and award-winner Dick Walker, Fry completed his apprentice training with the PGA and became a full member of the organization.
Fry polished his skills at Meridian Hills in Indianapolis, where he began work in Feb. of 1998 under the tutelage of multiple PGA award recipient Jack Barber.
WARREN GOLF COURSE MANAGER BRIAN GODFREY: “We are delighted to add Ken to our staff at the Warren Golf Course. I had the opportunity to meet and work with Ken in 1994 at Blackthorn, in preparation for the grand opening. With Ken’s assistance, that event was received tremendously. After working with two of the most respected and decorated PGA Professionals in the Indiana PGA Section-Dick Walker of Morris Park and Jack Barber of Meridian Hills-Ken clearly was ready to assume our head pro duties. Ken’s experience in customer service, teaching and golf course operations made him an excellent fit. We will be conducting a variety of individual and group lessons, as well as mini-clinics, and Ken will be the primary teacher. Anyone who knows Ken recognizes him as a genuinely good person and sees that he is always there to help. We are excited to have him join us as we near the opening of what will be a wonderful course for the Notre Dame community.”
