Koerner Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

Feb. 25, 2013

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame sophomore Emilee Koerner has been named BIG EAST Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Koerner (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) was the offensive leader for the Irish during a perfect 4-0 run at the East Carolina Pirate Invitational last weekend, batting a blistering 11-for-14 (.786) at the plate. The Notre Dame outfielder added two doubles, one triple, two home runs, a stolen base, nine RBI and six runs scored. She also extended her team-best hitting streak to 13 straight games.

Koerner’s second home run of the weekend, in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday against Fairfield, tied the game at 4-4 and set the stage for a walk-off home run by teammate Laura Winter one batter later.

The conference’s top honor is the second BIG EAST weekly citation for a Notre Dame player this season. Jenna Simon was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll during the week of Feb. 11.

The Irish travel to the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic March 2-3 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Buena Vista, Fla.
