NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After a thrilling three-set victory that went to tiebreakers in two sets and clinched the team’s 5-2 victory over No. 1 North Carolina, University of Notre Dame men’s tennis senior Alex Lawson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Lawson, a native of Tempe, Arizona, picked up his first win over a ranked opponent this season in the win over the Tar Heels, clinching the match at 4-1 with a 6-4, 6-7(5), 7-6(6) victory over No. 80 Robert Kelly. In the third-set tiebreaker, Lawson came back from a 2-4 deficit to win 8-6 on Senior Night and give the Irish their first victory over a No. 1 opponent since May 18, 1992.

Lawson shares the weekly honor with Florida State’s Benjamin Lock.

The Irish will close out the regular season this Sunday when they travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, to face North Carolina State at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center
