TULSA, Okla. – Another ranked foe fell victim to the University of Notre Dame’s outstanding men’s tennis doubles duo of Alex Lawson and Billy Pecor Friday, as the pair took down No. 12 Roberto Cid and Sasha Gozun of USF, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), to advance to the quarterfinals of the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships.
With the win, the tandem improves to 2-0 at the tournament and will meet No. 3 Arjun Kadhe and Jakob Sude of Oklahoma State Saturday for the right to go to the main doubles draw semifinals.
Elsewhere in Friday action, junior Quentin Monaghan (No. 88) saw his impressive tournament come to an end as he lost a close three-setter to No. 12 Austin Smith (Georgia), 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Monaghan, who took down two ranked foes during the week, finished the tournament with a 4-1 record.
