NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The 14th-ranked Notre Dame women’s soccer team is back in action this weekend to finish its fall home schedule Sunday afternoon. The Irish are set to host a top-15 battle when the fourth-ranked Clemson Tigers come to Alumni Stadium. Notre Dame looks to bounce back after its three-game win streak ended Thursday night following a 1-0 defeat to Wake Forest. The Irish are 1-0 this season coming off a loss and look to earn their fourth win of the season this weekend.
KNOW THE OPPONENT: CLEMSON TIGERS
- Notre Dame will close out its home fall slate Sunday afternoon against the Clemson Tigers.
- It will be the first visit for the Tigers to Alumni Stadium since 2016 when the 20th-ranked Irish knocked off the 12th-ranked Tigers 1-0 on Oct. 6.
- The lone goal of the match came off a corner kick from Monica Flores. Her service was headed towards goal by Taylor Klawunder but deflected back out. Kaleigh Olmsted got to the rebound and headed it past the keeper for the game-winning goal.
- Kaela Little made six saves for the shutout, the ninth shutout of the season for the Irish and they were the first team to shutout Clemson that season.
- Clemson enters Sunday’s match with a 4-2 record and are 3-2 in the ACC. In the most recent United Soccer Poll the Tigers were ranked fourth, the third week this season the Tigers have been ranked in the top-five.
- The Tigers are coming off a 2-0 home win over Wake Forest last Sunday.
- The Tigers are the first ranked team the Irish will play this season (the first rankings did not come out until after the Florida State game).
VAN ZANTEN IS ONE OF THE COUNTRY’S BEST
- Sophomore Kiki Van Zanten has been unstoppable for the Irish as they hit the halfway mark of the fall season.
- Van Zanten has been used primarily off the bench but has been incredibly effective when she gets on the field.
- The forward leads the Irish with six goals and 12 points through the first five games.
- She holds the NCAA lead in goals per game with 1.20 and ranks second in the country in goals and second in the NCAA in points per game (2.40).
- Van Zanten leads the ACC in goals in conference games as all six of hers goals have come against ACC opponents.
- She has scored in three of her last four games, including her first career hat trick against Miami and her second career brace against Syracuse.
