NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame senior men’s golfer Max Scodro (Chicago, Ill.) returns to the links this week when he tees it up at the inaugural Patriot All-America Invitational Wednesday through Friday (Dec. 28-30) at the newly rejuvenated The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
“It’s a great honor to represent Notre Dame in this prestigious event,” stated Scodro. “It is for a great cause, as it is in honor of all the dead and wounded soldiers from our military, and it is a real honor to be competing in such a great tournament. This tournament also has a great field and will be another opportunity to measure my game with the best collegiate players in the country.”
The 54-hole tournament, which has been organized by the partnership of the Arizona Golf Association, The Wigwam and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), will feature 18 holes of play on each of the three days of competition.
Invitations to the Patriot All-America were primarily based on individuals earning PING All-America honors the previous season in NCAA Divisions I, II and III as well as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Divisions I and II. Additionally, a member from the United States Military, Naval and Air Force Academies will be invited annually as well as GCAA national award recipients, members of the most recent Palmer Teams and American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) All-Americans and Toyota Junior Golf World Cup participants currently enrolled in their freshman year of college.
In cooperation with the Folds of Honor Foundation, each participant in the Patriot All-America Invitational shall represent a fallen service member. Every player also will receive a golf bag at the event’s opening ceremonies with the name and branch of service of a fallen military member whom they will represent. Upon conclusion of the event these bags will be auctioned off with all proceeds designated for the Folds of Honor Foundation which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving the country.
Scodro heads to the event holding the lowest career stroke average in Irish program history with a minimum of 50 career rounds played at 73.66. Additionally, Scodro has put together his strongest start to a season in his four-year stay at Notre Dame, carding a 71.80 average over five fall tournaments to begin the 2011-12 season that also saw him put together a top-five finish and three top-ten results.
