NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Sophomore Samantha Maxwell was tabbed the BIG EAST Conference Athlete of the Week for swimming and diving, the league announced recently. The award came on the heels of a pair of record-breaking performances at the Ohio State Invitational in December (the BIG EAST deferred naming its top weekly athlete in early December, opting to release the winners in early January).
Maxwell broke two of her own school records at the Ohio State Invite (Dec. 5-7). She faced an 11-team field and came away with a pair of second-place finishes, both of which set school records and NCAA B-cut times. Maxwell’s 100 Breast was finished in 1:01.57 and 200 Breast in 2:12.46 to break her benchmarks at Notre Dame. The prior records were both set during last season’s BIG EAST Conference Championships.
