NOTRE DAME, Ind. —- Junior forward Troy Murphy scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Notre Dame’s 89-71 victory over the International Select Team, but it was junior Harold Swanagan and sophomore Ivan Kartelo who sparked the Irish in the victory as the two combined for 18 points and eight rebounds coming off the bench.
Murphy led four Irish players in double figures as David Graves tossed in 19 points, while Ryan Humphrey and Matt Carroll each scored 10 points.
The International Select Team featured two former Notre Dame players, Ken Barlow and Joseph Price, who both played for the Irish from 1982-86. Barlow scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Price added five points and grabbed three boards. The International Select squad was led by LaSalle Thompson’s 20 points.
The Irish held a slim 40-37 lead at the intermission after shooting just 41.4 percent from the field., but came out in the second half and shot 60.7 percent by connecting on 17-of-28 shots.
Notre Dame opens up the 2000-01 campaign at home on Saturday, Nov. 18 when it plays host to Sacred Heart at 8:30 p.m.
