BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – Jared Jeffries scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed six rebounds as Indiana held off a late Notre Dame rally for a 76-75 victory Tuesday night.

Indiana (5-2) has now beaten Notre Dame seven straight times and 13 straight times in Bloomington, dating to 1973.

The loss also ended a seven-game winning streak for Notre Dame (7-1).

Indiana built an early 12-point lead and spent the rest of the game just trying to hang on.

Notre Dame came all the way back, using a 10-4 spurt to get within 72-70 on Chris Thomas’ 12-footer with 54.9 seconds to go.

Tom Coverdale then hit two free throws with 30.6 seconds left and Thomas followed that with a 3-pointer to make it 74-73 with 22.7 seconds remaining. Coverdale hit two more free throws with 19.2 seconds left and Ryan Humphrey’s tip-in with 2.4 seconds to play made it 76-75.

Donald Perry then missed the front end of a one-and-one and Humphrey’s desperation heave from 65 feet hit the shot clock.

Notre Dame was led by Thomas, who had 24 points, and Humphrey, who had 23 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks.

Tom Coverdale came off the bench to score 11 points for the Hoosiers, including the four free throws down the stretch.
