Men's Cross Country Earns Bid To NCAA Championship

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s cross country team will compete at the NCAA Championship on Monday, November 22 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The team earned a bid based on at-large points.

“We are certainly excited to compete at the NCAA meet,” says head coach Joe Piane. “With all of the hard work this team has put in, they deserve to compete.”

Under Piane’s helm, the men’s cross country team has appeared in 20 NCAA Championship meets over the past 26 years, while a cross country runner has made an appearance in the past 20 meets.

There were 31 teams selected to participate in the NCAA Championship contest. Of those 31, the top-two, seven person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regional meets for a total of 18 teams. The remaining 13 teams were selected at-large.

The Championship race also features 38 individuals, based on an at-large process. All of the individual qualifiers were top-25 finishers in their respective region.

Indiana State will play host to the 2010 NCAA Championship contest. The women’s race will begin approximately at 12:08 p.m. (ET), followed by the men’s race at 12:48 p.m.

A live webcast of the championship races will be provided from noon until 1:30 p.m. at NCAA.com. Additionally, highlights from the championships will be featured as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Season Show. The shot will air on Saturday, December 18 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on CBS HD.
