| Day One Results
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The (RV) Notre Dame men’s golf team recorded the lowest team totals in both rounds one (272) and two (270) Sunday, building an impressive 13-stroke lead over the 13-team field of the 12th annual Fighting Irish Classic. The Blue & Gold shot a 542 (-18) over the 36-hole day and now sit in the driver’s seat in search for its third ever Fighting Irish Classic Championship.
Round One
Notre Dame displayed a complete team effort in the opening round as Davis Chatfield, Hunter Ostrom, Miguel Delgado and John Felitto each shot a 68 (-2) to push the Irish into first at eight-under par. Individually, Kevin Conners also shone bright, besting all Irish participants with a 67 (-3), including a score of five-under on the front-nine.
Round Two
Notre Dame proceeded to out-do itself by two strokes in the second round with a 270 (-10), marking the second lowest team round score in the 12-year history of the Fighting Irish Classic.
Ben Albin stepped up in round two, leading the Irish with a 66 (-4). Chatfield followed right behind with a 67 (-3), finishing strong with three birdies on the back-nine. Next, Ostrom (-2) and Delgado (-1) each shot under-par to add to the Irish’s momentum heading into tomorrow’s final round.
The Leaderboards
Chatfield climbed nine spots in the standings over the second round to reach the top of the leaderboard at five-under par. Two of his fellow teammates in Ostrom (-4) and Delgado (-3) sit within striking distance for the individual title as well. Altogether, 11 competitors currently sit under-par.
Team-wise, Notre Dame sits in first place at 18-under, poised to break the all-time tournament record of five-under par. Meanwhile, Georgia Southern sits in second at five-under, while Fort Wayne is in third at one-over par.
Up Next
The Irish look to secure the tournament championship in Monday’s final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. Notre Dame will officially get underway at 9:42 a.m. at hole No. 1, going off in nine-minute intervals.
