COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Notre Dame men’s golf team slipped back to a 13th-place finish, at the Ohio State Kepler Intercollegiate, following third-round action Saturday at the par-72, 7,141-yard OSU Scarlet Course.
Notre Dame-which posted matching rounds of 304 in Friday’s action-closed with a 317 for a 925 total and the 13th-place finish in the 17-team field.
Senior Todd Vernon led the Irish on the final day with a round of 77, good for a 230 total and a share of 33rd in the 90-player field. Each of the other four Irish golfers shot 80 in the final round, with junior Alex Kent joining Vernon with a 230 total.
Rounding out the Irish contingent were senior Jeff Connell (233) and sophomores Chris Whitten (234) and Steve Ratay (236).
Northwestern closed with a 294 for an 876, besting the host team by 10 strokes for the team title. The Wildcats’ Jess Daley ran away with medalist honors, finishing with a 72 for a 210 total, seven strokes better than his teammate Luke Donald and Michigan’s Michael Harris.
