SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Troy Murphy scored 21 points and Notre Dame made a school-record 14 3-pointers in an 81-66 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Panthers’ fifth straight loss.
Freshman Jere Macura scored all of his 12 points on 3-pointers, including three midway through the second half, as the Irish (12-7, 3-2 Big East) took control.
Jarrett Lockhart and Ricardo Greer each scored 20 points for the Panthers (8-8, 0-5), while Chris Seabrooks added 17.
Matt Carroll hit two 3-pointers early as the Irish took an 11-4 lead with 16:39 to go in the first half.
Another 3-pointer by Carroll gave Notre Dame its largest lead of the first half, 35-24 with 2:42 left. Consecutive 3-pointers by Lockhart quickly cut that lead to five. The half ended with Notre Dame on top 38-32.
Pittsburgh closed within 40-38 three minutes into the second half, but a 3-pointer by Macura started a 17-4 run that made it 57-42 lead with 12 minutes to go.
Pittsburgh shot 42 percent from the field while Notre Dame shot 62 percent.
