Men's Swimming And Diving Caps Training Trip With Two Victories

The University of Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team completed its training trip to Florida for the holiday break with two dual meet victories over Xavier and Maine in Plantation, Fla., on Friday, Jan. 11. The Irish defeated Xavier 100-78 and Maine 104-74 by placing first in all 10 events of the competition.

Head coach Tim Welsh’s team was led by four double-event winners in the meet. Senior David Horak was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:38.90) and also won the 100 backstroke in 53.20.

Two of Horak’s teammates on the 200 medley relay team also won individual events. Jason Fitzpatrick touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.38), while Andrew Pittman out-raced the field in the 50 freestyle (22.26). Frank Krakowski was the fourth member of the winning 200 medley relay team.

Senior Austin Anderson rounded out the double-winners in the meet, helping the 200 freestyle relay team of Adam Cahill, Dean Wolf and Mike Koss swim to victory in 1:30.90. Anderson also won the 100 freestyle in 48.50.

Other event winners for the Irish included Matt Obringer in the 200 freestyle (1:44.99), David Moisan in the 200 individual medley (2:00.44), Lucas Wymore in the 100 butterfly (54.69) and Jonathan Pierce in the 500 freestyle (4:55.09).

Notre Dame will return home as the new scholastic semester begins next week and the Irish also will return to action in Rolfs Aquatic Center Saturday, Jan. 19, in a dual meet against Oakland at 2 p.m.
