EAST LANSING, Mich. — The 27th-ranked Notre Dame men’s tennis team won the doubles point and lost just one set in singles to defeat Michigan State 7-0 on Thursday in East Lansing, Mich. Junior Casey Smith improved to 6-1 at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Goran Topalo. Smith teamed with freshman Luis Haddock-Morales for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Mike Jonckheere and Jimmy McGuire. The Irish improve to 5-2 with their second straight 7-0 win after also blanking Iowa on Sunday. Notre Dame returns to action when it travels to 47th-ranked Kentucky for a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday.

Junior Javier Taborga and sophomore Brian Farrell won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles for the first Irish doubles match before Smith and Haddock-Morales clinched the doubles point. Michigan State’s Rodrigo Abucham and Goran Topalo were winners at No. 3 doubles.

In addition to Smith’s win at No. 1 singles, Taborga, Haddock-Morales, freshman Matthew Scott and junior Andrew Laflin also posted straight victories. Farrell held on for a 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-2 win over McGuire at No. 4 to complete the singles sweep.
