Irish Fall At #16 Florida State 68-61

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Notre Dame (13-15) put up a valiant effort but fell short at No. 18 Florida State (22-6) on Monday evening, suffering a 68-61 road defeat to the Seminoles. The Irish led for the majority of the contest but the hosts made enough plays down the stretch to escape with the win.

The duo of sophomore D.J. Harvey and freshman Prentiss Hubb carried the Irish on the offensive end. Harvey led the team in scoring with 18 points while Hubb poured in 17 on the evening. Junior John Mooney also finished in double figures, recording 14 points in the ACC matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Irish got off to a good start on Monday evening, jumping out to a 10-point lead at 27-17 with over six minutes left in the first half. The Seminoles chipped away at the lead for the rest of the first frame and the game was tied at the half at 33-33. Eighteen of Notre Dame’s court came from the three-point line, as the Irish were 6-of-13 from deep in the opening 20 minutes.

Notre Dame opened the second stanza by scoring 12 of the first 16 points to jump back out to an eight-point lead at 45-37. The Irish were on top for the majority of the half until Florida State connected on a three-point attempt with 6:35 left in regulation to give the hosts a 57-55 lead.

The Irish were unable to find enough offense in the closing stages of the game, as the Seminoles pulled out a 68-61 win over the Irish.

NOTRE DAME PLAYER OF THE GAME
Hubb filled up the box score on Monday, finishing one point shy of matching his career high for points with 17. The guard shot 3-of-6 from behind the arc and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds. Hubb also added three assists and a steal in his impressive performance.

For the 15th time this season the Irish finished with less than 10 turnovers, as the squad recorded nine at Florida State.

NOTES OF THE GAME

  • Harvey finished with 10-plus points for the 16th time this season, scoring 18 on the evening.
  • Mooney scored 10 or more points for the 24th time during his junior campaign, finishing with 14 points against Florida State.
  • For the 11th time this season, Hubb finished in double figures in the points column, scoring 17 at Florida State.
  • Hubb posted a career high in rebounds, pulling down seven boards on Monday.
