Men's Golf Adds Oberle In Signing Class

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame has added Chase Oberle of Breakwater, Queensland, to their incoming class for 2026-27. The Australia native is set to join the Irish as a freshman next year.

“What drew me to Notre Dame was the commitment to developing not just strong athletes, but strong people,” Oberle said of his commitment to the Irish Wednesday as part of National Signing Day. “I’m excited to join a program that values character, hard work, and team culture as well as performance. I want to challenge myself both on the golf course and in my studies and Notre Dame can provide me with opportunities to do both.”

Oberle is the back-to-back champion of the Queensland Junior Amateur Championship and was twice named the Queensland Junior Male Amateur Golfer of the Year.

“Chase has demonstrated an ability to win and improve at every stage of his competitive career,” Director of Golf and Head Coach John Handrigan said of Oberle. “His steady progress through high school golf reflects both his talent and dedication. Having proudly represented Australia for multiple years, Chase is eager to join a program that values teamwork and excellence. His relentless work ethic and competitive drive will set a strong example for our team from day one.”

In the past two years, Oberle has won seven major junior tournaments. In 2025 alone, he finished among the top-five at the Australian Boys Amateur Championship and sixth at the Junior World Championships. Additionally, he competed at the Australian Men’s Amateur Championship, taking 11th overall, and took a top-20 finish at the 2025 Boys Junior PGA Championship.

“To be recruited at an institution like Notre Dame means you have to be elite in all areas,” Handrigan added of the signing class. “Outside of on-course performance, it takes being highly committed to academics, being a great teammate, having incredible character, and a willingness to be a part of something bigger than yourself to succeed here. Coach Zedrick and I believe those boxes were checked again with who we signed for next fall.”

Oberle plans to major in business at Notre Dame.
