LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team closed out competition at the annual Windon Memorial Classic Monday afternoon, taking eighth place overall and led individually by Jacob Modleski who placed third with a score of 208 (-5). The team finished with a score of 864 (+12) over the two-day event.
Modleski recorded a team-best 68 (-3) score in the opening round of the tournament to set the pace for the rest of the tournament. The sophomore went on to record even par of 71 in round two before a score of 69 (-2) to round out play. Nate Stevens finished second among all Irish competitors, taking 32nd with a score 0f 219 (+6).
Mike Qiu and Rocco Salvitti finished close behind Stevens, posting scores of 220 (+7) and 221 (+8) respectively. Chris Bagnall also competed over the weekend, recording a score of 225 (+12). Qiu recorded the lone eagle for the Irish in Round 3, recording a three-stroke score on the par-five at hole 14. The eagle was the team’s only of the tournament.
The Irish return to play this coming weekend as they host the annual Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course. The two-day event is set for an 8:30am shotgun start on Sunday, Oct. 6 and teams will play the first and second round. Round 3 will commence Monday, Oct. 7 at 8am.
