CARMEL, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s golf team sits in eighth place after two rounds of play at Indiana University’s Crooked Stick Intercollegiate. The Irish shot a 36-over par 612 (301-311) in Monday’s first and second rounds, which were played under windy but warm conditions.

Freshman Kevin Conners led the Irish with a seven-over par 151 total (75-76) on the day. He enters the final day of play tied for 20th on the leaderboard and just seven shots outside the top five places on that leaderboard. Both of his rounds counted on the Notre Dame team scorecard.

The Irish sat in sixth place after the morning round, led by freshman Miguel Delgado’s 2-over-par 74. Delgado’s opening round, which began on the par-4 10th hole, included four birdies, eight pars and six bogeys. In the afternoon, he shot an 81 to finish the day at 11-over par (155).

Junior Blake Barens shot back-to-back 77’s to finish the first two rounds at 10-over par (154) and both of his rounds scored for the Irish.

Freshman Ben Albin matched Delgado’s 151 (+11) with an opening round 75 followed by an afternoon 80. Both of his rounds also scored for Notre Dame. Albin tied with six other golfers for the top mark (-1) in par 3 scoring on the day.

Rounding out the Irish contingent, sophomore Thomas Steve shot an 83 in the morning and then turned in a 78 in the afternoon to finish the day at 17-over par (161).

Crooked Stick, which has hosted championship events such as the 2009 U.S. Senior Open, the 2012 BMW Championship and the 1991 PGA Championship, proved to be a stern test as only four players finished the day under par. Kentucky’s Tyler McDaniel shot a pair of 67’s to finish at 10-under par and he will enter the final round of play with an eight-stroke lead. Illinois (297-279-576) leads by nine strokes over Purdue (292-293-585) on the team leaderboard.

Tuesday’s third and final round will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the Irish teeing off of the tenth hole, paired with players from Ball State and Eastern Michigan. Live scoring will be provided by Golfstat.
