MADISON, Wis. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team once again improved upon its team score in the third and final round of the Badger Invitational, carding a 290 (+2) on Tuesday. As a result, the Irish finished in eighth place with an 884-tournament total (+20).
Three Notre Dame golfers finished among the top 25 in the field, including the two new freshmen Taichi Kho and Andrew O’Leary. Kho, who competed as an individual in his first tournament for the Blue & Gold, shot a 73 (+1) on the day to finish one-over par overall (217), good for 15th place. Kho tallied the fourth-most pars in the tournament with 38.
Junior Davis Lamb, who shot two-under par on Monday, shot a 75 (+3) this afternoon to finish right behind in 16th place at 218 (+2). Next, O’Leary fired off a one-under par to finish tied for 23rd for the tournament. O’Leary improved his score each day, carding a 76-73-71.
“We did not meet the expectations we set for ourselves for the tournament, but witnessed plenty of positives, including improving our team score each round. The two freshmen played pretty well with top-25 finishes so good news in terms of the future of the program.”
Davis Chatfield rebounded after shooting an 80 in the first round with a 72 on Monday and a 71 today. John Felitto stayed consistent with a 74-73-74 tournament.
Miguel Delgado’s 228 (+12), Kevin Conners’ 232 (+16) and Hunter Ostrom’s 235 (+19) rounded out the Notre Dame scores.
Up next, the Irish will make the trip to Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, for the Northern Intercollegiate, taking place Sept. 15-16.
“Overall, our short game wasn’t strong enough this week. We’ll have a few days in town to work on it,” Coach Handrigan explained. “We have a strong team that’s deep this year, who will continue to improve as the season moves on.”
