STATESBORO, Ga. – Following two rounds of action at the Schenkel Invitational at the Forest Heights Country Club, the Notre Dame men’s golf team sits at one-under-par, firing off a 287 (-1) to tie for fourth place (288-287=575).
Andrew O’Leary continued his solid weekend with a 69 (-3) in the second round and sits just three shots out of the individual lead in a tie for fourth place at 140 (71-69, -4). Miguel Delgado posted his second straight round of 71 to remain in the top 10, tied for eighth place at 2-under-par (71-71=142). Davis Lamb chipped in a 74 to hold down a share of 28th place (73-74=147, +3), while Taichi Kho rounded out the Irish starting lineup tied for 49th place with a scoring round of 73 (77-73=150, +6).
Ben Albin carded a second-day 79, now tied for 59th place (73-79=152, +8). Playing as an individual, Kevin Conners tallied a 77 (+7) to share 66th (76-77=153, +9).
The tournament’s top five teams remained the only squads cumulatively at par or better, with the par-72, 6,947-yard Forest Heights Country Club layout yielding a 74.45 average across two whole days. Notre Dame ranked fourth in par-4 scoring average (4.11) after the opening 36 holes, adding the fourth-most birdies as a team (28).
Round Two
O’Leary got out to a fast start on his front nine, notching birdies at the par-4 second, par-3 third, par-5 seventh and par-5 ninth holes. A birdie at the par-5 12th hole pulled him to -5 for the round before a string of three bogies slowed the momentum. O’Leary capped his Saturday with a birdie at the 18th hole, turning in a 69 and leaping into the top five.
After 36 holes, O’Leary has paced the field with 10 total birdies thus far in the tournament. His -5 total on the par 5s also slotted him among the top players in the event.
Delgado responded from a bogey at the first hole with consecutive birdies at the fourth and fifth holes to move to -1. Four straight pars capped his opening nine in 35. A birdie and bogey on the back side were offset with seven pars to bring Delgado home in 71.
Kho made three birdies on the front nine to notch a two-under par, birdieing the first, seventh and ninth holes. Three bogies on the back nine capped Kho’s 73.
