Ostrom Wins Individual Northern Intercollegiate Championship

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team carded the lowest score over the final round of the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms with a 284 (-4), finishing in second place. The the Irish recorded a tournament total of 875 (+11), just one stroke back from the leader, Marquette.
 
Individual competitor Hunter Ostrom had a weekend to remember, claiming the individual title. Starting the final round just one stroke back, Ostrom tallied a career-low 68 (-4) to post a 54-hole tournament career-low 210 (-6).
 
Ostrom became the second individual tournament winner since 2014 for the Irish, all while recording his first tournament crown.
 
“It takes a special player to overcome adversity after not playing his best in week one, then coming back this week to play stellar golf to win by four strokes,” Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan said. “That’s Hunter Ostrom and I’m very proud of him. He was aggressive mentally and went in to win it.”
 
FINAL ROUND
Sophomore Davis Chatfield was the top finisher in the team lineup, recording his second top-five finish of his young career with a fourth place showing. Chatfield matched Ostrom with a final round of 68 to card a tournament total of 216 (E).
 
Miguel Delgado finished even par over the final round to finish in 11th place with a 218 (+2). Davis Lamb also had a strong showing, notching three birdies before tallying a one-under par round to total a 220 (+4).
 
Rounding out the Irish scoring on the day were Andrew O’Leary’s 223, Kevin Conners’ 227 and Taichi Kho’s 231.
 
“They never gave up,” Coach Handrigan added. “We started off poorly and kept battling right to the end. We had a chance to win on the last few holes and I am so very proud of this team. We had a never-give-up attitude.”
