OFCC Invitational
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – After a disappointing day one at the OFCC Invitational, University of Notre Dame men’s tennis head coach Ryan Sachire wanted his student-athletes to be better on day two than they had been on day one. The Irish did just that as they won 12 of their 15 singles matches, including 10 in straight sets, against top talent from elite programs such as Virginia, Illinois, Texas and Memphis.
Earning two singles wins on the day were freshmen Eddy Covalschi and Josh Hagar, sophomores Quentin Monaghan, who is ranked 98th in the country, and Nicolas Montoya and senior Greg Andrews, who is ranked 31st in the country. Monaghan and Andrews proved to be particularly dominant as neither allowed their opponents to win more than four games in a set all day.
Both standouts also picked up a ranked win on the day as Monaghan took down No. 93 Sudanway Sitaram of Texas, 6-0, 6-2, while Andrews topped No. 117 Justin Shane of Virginia, 6-3, 6-2.
Day three of the OFCC Invitational gets underway Sunday in Olympia Fields, Ill.
